There are five special awards given out at the Fayette Classic.
Marvin Lee Moore Award:
We have decided again to specially congratulate people in debate who show excellence. Marvin Lee Moore Jr. was an outstanding debate student at Fayette
County High School who died
in an automobile accident in 2000. Marvin was an excellent student, gifted athlete
and talented debater who was also very active in political causes and social reform.
He strove with all his heart to make the world a better place by using his gifts of communication and persuasion to
influence those around him. Some of his notable achievements included writing
for a student magazine aimed at increasing social awareness and speaking out against racism, poverty and social inequality. Marvin was active in his church and his community, frequently volunteering at homeless
shelters and soup kitchens in the Atlanta area. He lived his
life with strength, commitment and love. We ask
that every coach nominate only one student to win this award. If you have
a student on your team who exhibits similar qualities I encourage you to nominate him or her for this unique honor. Please submit a short letter outlining the contributions and character of your nomination, with examples
and an explanation of why this student is unique. Please email your letter by
Friday at 7pm to fayettedebate@yahoo.com or Kelly.beverly@fcboe.org. Thank you!
