How much are tournaments?

Tournament costs vary because of transportation/registration costs.  For in state tournaments that only require one night of hotel and school bus travel, the price is usually 35 dollars [it covers mainly hotel fees].  For out of state tournaments, we will be traveling on Charter Buses with other public schools around the state and county.

Who can travel with the debate team?

Only PAID members can travel with the debate team. Dues are $75 and must be paid to Mrs. Kelly before the first tournament!  These dues offset registration fees the school pays.  Ten dollars of it also cover your NFL Student Membership.

You can not go to any tournament you want to- we don’t have enough money to do that. You must attend practices and show effort in order to travel. 

Another requirement for traveling anywhere with the Fayette County debate team is to maintain a B average in all classes and to have a winning record.

For students who don’t attend practices or show effort, we will attend Fayette Forums that are held within the county at one of the Fayette High Schools (FCHS, MHS, SMHS).  These are free of cost [except for dinner] and provide two rounds of competition in Policy Debate, Public Forum, and Lincoln Douglas.
